What the Research Says

Cannabidiol (CBD) has become increasingly popular in recent years due to its potential health benefits. But did you know that CBD can also be beneficial for our furry friends? In this blog, we’ll take a look at what the research says about the effects of CBD on dogs and cats.

CBD and Dogs:

Dogs can suffer from various health issues, including pain, anxiety, and inflammation. That’s where CBD can come in handy. Dr. Tim Shu, founder and CEO of VETCBD, has conducted research on the use of CBD in dogs and found that it can reduce pain and anxiety in dogs with osteoarthritis. In a study published in the Journal of the American Holistic Veterinary Medical Association, Dr. Shu reported that CBD was well-tolerated by dogs.

Dr. Sarah Brandon, DVM, of Canna Companion, has also conducted research on the use of CBD in dogs. In a study published in the Journal of Veterinary Behavior, Dr. Brandon found that CBD was effective in reducing anxiety in dogs and improving their overall quality of life.

Dr. Robert J. Silver, DVM, MS, of Integrative Veterinary Care, has also conducted research on the use of CBD in dogs. In a study published in the Journal of the American Holistic Veterinary Medical Association, Dr. Silver found that CBD was effective in reducing pain and inflammation in dogs with osteoarthritis.

CBD and Cats:

Just like dogs, cats can also suffer from various health issues, including pain, anxiety, and inflammation. Dr. Karen S. Behnke, DVM, founder and CEO of Juju Royal, has conducted research on the use of CBD in cats. In a study published in the Journal of Feline Medicine and Surgery, Dr. Behnke found that CBD was effective in reducing pain and inflammation in cats with osteoarthritis.

Dr. Stephanie McGrath, DVM, of Colorado State University, has also conducted research on the use of CBD in cats. In a study published in the Journal of the American Veterinary Medical Association, Dr. McGrath found that CBD was effective in reducing anxiety and improving the overall quality of life in cats with chronic pain.

The results of the various studies conducted on the effects of CBD on pets indicate that CBD may be effective in treating various conditions in dogs and cats, including pain, inflammation, and anxiety. However, more research is needed in this area, and pet owners should always consult with their veterinarian before giving their pet any type of supplement or medication. It’s important to remember that every pet is different, and what works for one may not work for another. But, if you’re considering using CBD for your furry friend, these studies offer a promising start.
